My Favourite Bridge Memory

Sarah is the third generation in her family to develop a passion for bridge, following in the footsteps of her mother and grandparents. She began playing over 35 years ago and quickly transitioned into teaching and directing. Now serving as the WBU Chief Tournament Director, Sarah continues to run numerous Welsh bridge events. She later joined the EBU TD panel and made history as the only woman to rise to the rank of National Director. In 2020, she successfully completed the European Bridge League Workshop in Belfast just before lockdown.

Sarah enjoys the variety of work and locations that directing offers, along with the opportunity to meet a wide range of personalities and bridge players of all skill levels. Her directing experience spans various events, including bridge holidays at home and abroad, club games, and home internationals.

Previously, Sarah spent a significant part of her career helping to run the family restaurant alongside her brother, sister-in-law, and mother. She particularly enjoyed managing the front of house and assisting with wedding and event planning.

Sarah lives in Pontypridd and has two daughters: Ruth, who resides and works in Shetland, and Rachel, who teaches bridge online.
